balance brought to life

How does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis is a natural, meditative state we go in and out of all the time. Hypnosis used in therapy is a safe and gentle way of opening the door to your subconscious to bring about positive change to the way you think and behave, as well as to your body.

Your subconscious is the part of you that stores all your memories, emotions and patterns of behaviour. A powerful and hidden resource, the subconscious can control the way we feel or how we react and often over-rides our conscious beliefs. When you relax your mind can function more efficiently, listen to itself and find solutions from within. When we are relaxed and focussed the subconscious mind becomes more receptive and will hear and accept positive thoughts and ideas that up to now it has resisted. Sometimes this may be all that is needed to calm a fear or break a habit.

The subconscious is also a boundless source of imaginative and creative thinking. Relaxed through hypnosis you can look into your past to find explanations for your feelings or examine the present to find new solutions to old problems. Or you may project yourself into the future to practice more helpful thoughts and behaviours, before trying them out in real life.
